Shelagh's Tips

This is where I share the ideas I come across that make sense, and help me to help myself.

Looking around you

With the better weather, it's much more tempting to get out for a bit of a walk. Use the time to let your eyes benefit: get your eyes moving. Try looking up to find the bird singing at the top of a tree by letting your eyes lead, then letting your head as much as you need, rather than starting as we so often do, the other way round.

Cushion strategy

Ergonomically designed chairs usually have a 'lumbar support'. I tend to use something different: if I'm sitting in a chair, on a sofa or in the car, I put a small, fairly thin cushion between my shoulder blades. This gives the support where my spine needs it without the uncomfortable wedge in the lower back of a lumbar support.

Introduce yourself to your sitting bones
People often sit behind their sitting bones, on their tailbone, or the slump forward. Sitting bones are well named! That's their job, for sitting on.
