Shelagh maintains a newsletter archive. Her prize winning article appeared in Conscious Control, a journal about the FM Alexander Technique published by Mouritz. Shelagh is also a member of STAT, the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique. The STAT website offers useful information as well as a good source of teachers if you aren't based in London. Free MP3 download: Listen to Shelagh Aitken on Lying in Balanced Resting State (15 minutes, MP3 format) Good Books F. M. Alexander wrote four books, all of which are available to order from the Mouritz website: The Use of the Self (1932) Man's Supreme Inheritance (1910) Constructive Conscious Control of the Individual (1923) The Universal Constant in Living (1941) Many books have been published on the Alexander Technique. A few which I have found to be accessible and informative are: Walter Carrington, The Act of Living. ed. Jerry Sontag (Mornum Time Press, 1999) Jerry Sontag, ed. Curiosity Recaptured. (Mornum Time Press) Michael Gelb. Body Learning. (London: Aurum Press, 2004) Joe Searby, Live Better: Alexander Technique. (London: Duncan Baird Publishers, 2007) Missy Vineyard, How You Stand, How You Move, How You Live. (Nation Books, 2007) The most complete biography of Alexander so far, one which is both sympathetic and honest, is: Michael Bloch, F. M.: The Life of Frederick Matthias Alexander, Founder of the Alexander Technique (London: Little Brown, 2004) Useful resources about the Alexander Technique can be found in many places on the web. |
